Security First Uses Grant to Pay Local Families’ Electric Bill

Security First Bank, through their branch location in Lincoln, NE recently presented a check for $500 to Lincoln Electric System (LES), which the company used to help pay overdue balances for families struggling to pay their utility bill.

Security First Bank was one of 26 recipients in a four-state region selected to receive a $500 charitable grant from FHLBank Topeka as part of their #500forGood program. As a condition of the program, recipients must use the grant to make a positive impact in their community.

“I’m a believer in paying it forward. I knew we had families in the Lincoln area who struggle to pay for basic necessities, such as utilities, and I thought what great way to help. You never know what someone is going through, and a gesture of kindness from a stranger could change someone’s entire outlook,” comments Security First Bank Director of Mortgage Lending Lisa Workman.

LES staff contacted their customers to let them know all or a portion of their overdue bill was going to be covered thanks to this donation.

“We’re very grateful to the Security First team for thinking of our customers. Especially at this time of year, families can be forced to make some tough choices about their bills, and we know those receiving the funds are very thankful for their community’s support,” comments Lisa Hale, Vice President, Customer Services of LES.
