Supporting Our Local Heroes: $20,000 Donated to Cozad and Overton Volunteer Fire Departments
The recent Nebraska wildfire left a lasting impact on many of the communities we proudly serve. As families, farms, and local businesses begin the long process of recovery, we continue to see extraordinary dedication from the volunteer fire departments who responded tirelessly throughout the crisis.
To support these ongoing efforts, Security First Bank, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka (FHLB), has provided $10,000 each to the Cozad Volunteer Fire Department and the Overton Volunteer Fire Department.
Strengthening Local Response Efforts
Our team initially contributed $2,500 to each department. Recognizing the scale of the wildfire and the resources required to respond effectively, we applied for the FHLB’s Disaster Relief Matching Funds Grant. FHLB approved the request and provided a $3-to-$1 match, adding $7,500 more for each department.
This combined support helps ensure that local volunteer firefighters have access to the equipment, training, and resources needed as recovery continues.
A Message of Appreciation
“Our volunteer fire departments are essential to the safety and resilience of our communities,” said Marnie Herrmann, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer. “Their commitment during the wildfire response was remarkable, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with FHLB to support their ongoing efforts.”
